in this part of the series i am explaining five terms related to the internet
username
everything you visit a social networking site or email , the page asks for a username .username is a name that uniquely identifies someone on a computer system /website .it's what you create when you sign up for a new account .you don't need to key in your name as username ,you can use any word or combination of letter and number . however make sure to remember your username as it is your identified on a particular website
domain name
this is unique name that identified a website .simply put, it's like a website's address .a domain name usually contain the name of the website and a domain suffix such as.com or .org for example the domain name for face book would be "facebook.com" the domain suffix explain the type of website.com means it is a commercial website ,while .gov means it is a government website.
offline
as the name suggest ,offline means you are not connected to the network . hence ,your computer cannot download data from webpages or communication with other webpages or computers. there are some browsers and email programs that allow you to work offline , but working offline will not offer you the same experience as being online
password
along with username a website will ask for the password . this is usually a secretive combination of the letters, numbers and symbols , known only to the user . the process of keying in your username along with your password is known as login .while you can share your username with people keep your password to yourself as this what protect your account . keep changing your password periodically and always set a strong one that you can remember .
search engine
simply put, google and bing are search engines that index millions of wed so that you can locate websites easily even if you don't know the URL .search engines periodically crawl the web and create a database of websites that they pull out for you based on the keywords you enter
